If your Internet-Explorer web browser gives an error stating "HTTP error 403 - Forbidden" this is not caused by our website, as our error messages have all been edited to provide more information and be more 'user friendly'.
We've had a report of this error appearing when trying to download a update file.
Almost certainly, it is Norton that's blocking the update files but it's not 100% certain. I've trawled the various support forums around the web and IE6, Norton & ZoneAlarm is a popular combination that throws up this error.
Most solutions suggest it's another IE fault, and the solution is to switch to another browser - Firefox or Opera - they're both freeware. In most cases, you would struggle to see the difference between them, except that on IE supports ActiveX extensions so some sites wouldn't work. And that's part of the problem, when a page is spreading virus or spyware it's usually through ActiveX so Norton blocks it!! Give them a go, here are links to to Firefox and Opera.
However, I've also found that Norton can give such an error. After some recent changes on another site, Norton blocks everything and causes long delays in pages loading. It means constantly clicking Permit (Allow) for the Norton High Risk screen. When trying to include the site as a trusted site, it wasn't allowed because they don't have https. They only have http as their site prefix.
The apparent solution was to "Go to the trusted sites list in Internet Options and remove the check mark in the little box under the big box. This will allow sites without the "s" to be put in the list. " I hope that makes sense to you !!.
In past versions, Norton has more easily allowed for individual site settings, but they maybe making it a little harder this year !!.
Have a try with Firefox, that may be the easiest solution.
